WE’RE BACK: The Bachelorette Party/Weekend/Vacation/Whatever

Last week you were neglected. Hadley and I were both on our vacations and decided to take the week off from everything. Blog included.

So here is the thing, my best friend from high school (the one who visited last week) is getting married. Apparently getting married is a big deal. There are these things called Bachelorette parties, not sure if you know, but they are basically a large fiesta where a bunch of girls get drunk, go out, and celebrate unwedded bliss. I was lucky enough to be invited. My friend decided to have hers as a weekend getaway in Austin, and it was bomb. So I went to Tejas and I docugrammed the whole thing, just for you.

(Texas flag, captured somewhere outside of Austin.)

I first flew down to Dallas to see my family (I began my heavy consumption of Mexican food only one hour after landing), I then road tripped it to Austin with my friend for the weekend de celebration.  We got there early and I beelined for the pool. I figured that since it had been two years since I had stepped foot in a pool, I was going to soak up every second of it! I now look like I have actually seen the sun, rather than the previous I-live-in-a-windowless-basement look I had been sporting for over a year.  The resort we stayed at was beautiful. Way too nice for someone who spent all her road trip money on roadside jerky and two six packs of Shiner Bock.

The first night we pre-gamed while watching the Opening Ceremonies (which I happened to love because I have a weird affinity for the Industrial Revolution), took the hotel’s van to a Mexican restaurant on the lake, danced to a little 80′s Cover Band we happened to run in to, and played all of those games you are supposed to play at Bachelorette parties. There was also ‘Shots Around the World’ and I fell asleep sitting up. Photos of this unfortunately exist.

(My Church. Also our road trip bathroom break.)(View from our balcony, Lake Travis never looked so good.)(My friend, the deer, that lived below our room. They like Baked Lays.)

(The group on night one. Team U.S.A. themed. Me fighting the sorority squat hardcore.)

We spent the next day soaking up the rays until evening fell. This night was to be the big hoorah. Everyone was  to meet outside for the HUMMER LIMO (haven’t been in one of those since Homecoming junior year of high school) pickup. I was told that while we were walking down the hallway to go to the elevator it looked equivalent to this scene from The Hangover. I am obviously Zach Galifianakis. Man purse and all. Jerome was our driver, he was pretty chill. The hour commute (I included our ‘Can you drive drive around while we finish this champagne?’ into that time count) to downtown Austin for dinner was full of hardcore 2000′s rap and N*Sync jams. When we exited the limo, I swear to God, this was playing. I cried I was laughing so hard. We ate, we paid, we moved on. 6th Street was like a slap of college drunk to the face and I loved it. It was hot and everyone was underage: amaze. I literally saw a 16 year old try to get into a bar in front of me. She was told that if she wanted her ID back, she had to scream out into the street ‘I am not able to go into this bar because I used a fake ID,’ I laughed. Jerome picked us up after some dancing and late night food. We all slept in the limo.

(Me and the Bride to be. I can’t stop wearing those shorts.)

Basically, it was a weekend to remember. No one got roofied, there wasn’t a tiger in our hotel room, and non of us lost a tooth. It wasn’t quite The Hangover, but it sure was fun. I can’t wait until the real deal in November. There will be a wedding post to follow.

(My ride home.)
